We hope everyone is doing well.
Where did the summer go??? I don’t know about you but, I certainly didn’t get the amount of kayaking, biking, running or even just lake time I had promised myself I would. Oh well, always next year territory in Saskatchewan.
Looking back at our last edition, it appears not much has changed from an investment strategy standpoint – we are still being cautious and still think a Dollar Cost Averaging strategy is the way to go. July and August saw a bit of a jump in the markets and got people thinking that we had hit bottom and started our V recovery. Unfortunately, September has reversed that recovery based mainly on the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) strategy that there were going to have to raise rates aggressively to fight inflation fears. So, it looks like we are going to be looking for a W recovery.
On an office note, we were sorry to see Candice leaving our office. Candice has kept us (at least me) organized and on top of office administration. We wish her well.
Take care,
BTR Financial Planning Team – Bryan, Preston and Shannon.
BTR Financial Planning Market News - Q3 2022
What can we expect for the rest of 2022?
We can often make comparison between the path for market returns and a family road trip: the journey may have both expected and unexpected pit stops along the way, but the end destination will likely be positive. At the beginning of the year, we expected the start of a rate tightening cycle by global central banks. What we hadn’t expected was above-average interest rate increases, the invasion of Ukraine and its impact on energy and food prices, and supply chain disruptions caused by the zero-COVID policy in China.

Awakening to inflation - Solutions For Financial Planning*
Higher prices can chip away at your savings, so position your money to stay a step ahead. Monetary inflation hasn’t been much of a concern for so long that it may seem like a foreign concept to some people. Before the 1990s, wild swings in inflation were more common, but for the past 25 years annual rates have hovered close to two per cent, with few notable fluctuations. What a difference a year can make.
